Ardmore Selected as the Construction Manager on State Farm Center Renovations Project at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Chicago — Ardmore Associates, an engineering firm for complex infrastructure projects, joins the team as a sub-consultant for the University of Illinois State Farm Center Renovations Project. The project construction cost is $165 million for the multi-use sports stadium project. As the MBE team member to the construction manager, Turner/Clayco Joint Venture, Ardmore will provide construction management services for the six-phase project that is expected to be completed in the fall of 2016.

The State Farm Center, formerly known as the Assembly Hall, opened in 1963 with a 17,200 seating capacity and considered the largest concrete dome of any sports arena in the world at the time. The facility is undergoing 152,000 sq. ft. of renovations and 66,000 sq. ft. of added space while 33,000 sq. ft. will remain unchanged. Ardmore’s relationship started with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Feb. 2014 in the capacity of full-time onsite supervisor during construction. The responsibilities include safety, site inspections, scheduling and field problem-solving.

When completed, the higher education project and sports stadium will pursue a LEED Gold Rating. The expanded facility will feature abundant concessions, restrooms on the Upper Concourse Level, new office spaces, new entries, ADA ramps, a plaza and its first complete HVAC system which will increase functionality from May through August.
